Native Plant Movement
Doug Tallamy, Phd, University of Delaware, has been calling the alarm over the decline in insect life and diversity. In essence, Dr. Tallamy was the start of it all. I met Dr. Tallamy when he came to UB this past fall. I told him that in the last 5 years peoples understanding of native plants has evolved. Early in my nursery everyone who came to my nursery knew Tallamy's name. Now people come here and don't know who he is and what he has done. His movement evolved beyond him - Doug said it was never about him. It was about the plants. Without Dr. Tallamy we would have lost more of the ecosystem than we have.
This page is a testament to the power of every day people. We have more power than we realize. We can plant those natives that are critical to the environment. Planting an oak is a choice that helps the environment. We all can plant one oak, or one rain garden, or a meadow at a local school. Collectively we have more we can achieve.
